There’s a good chance of an Oompa-Loompa sighting when Maquoketa Valley High School presents the musical “Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka,” Nov. 11-13.

The storyline centers around the world-famous candy man seeking an heir.

According to the press release, “The delicious adventures experienced by Charlie Bucket on his visit to Willy Wonka’s mysterious chocolate factory light up the stage in this captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl’s fantastical tale. Featuring the enchanting songs from the 1971 film starring Gene Wilder and new songs by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley, Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka is a scrumdiddlyumptious musical guaranteed to delight everyone’s sweet tooth.”

The musical is directed by Megan McCrary, Travis Ford and Hannah Crumpton. McCrary said the musical fits the cast well.

“We found a musical that fits the voice types of the students. It has lots of roles so we could get lots of kids involved in the musical. We picked something that was familiar to the audience too, something they would like to go see.”

McCrary said rehearsals have gone well.

“The kids are really working hard and enjoying the rehearsals. We have had some late nights, but are having a good time with it.”

Showtimes on Friday, Nov. 11 and Saturday, Nov. 12 are 7 p.m., with a matinee Sunday, Nov. 13 beginning at 2 p.m. Doors open 30 minutes before curtain.
